To my Rainbow Baby, Henry,
Today, you are eight months old! How is it possible that you are this old, this big?! I just cannot believe how time is flying and how fast your birthday is approaching. It seems far away and yet so soon all at the same time. We have had a very busy and exciting month as fall gets into full swing, and you have had quite a few firsts in the last few weeks!
We survived your Daddy’s two week trip to Colorado. When we returned from our football weekend in Pennsylvania, we stayed with Gammaw and Pup Pup for a few more days and then headed back to our house for your Gram and Pops to come and watch you while Gammaw and Pup Pup went on vacation. Your dad got home that Friday afternoon, and you were so happy to see him again!! I was so thankful to finally have him home to help me out at night, because you were still having some rough sleep. Things were much better than they had been when you weren’t in your own bed, but you were still up multiple times per night. But the following week we had our answer as to why you were having such trouble!
When I got home from work that next Friday, Gram told me that you had your first cold. You had a runny nose and some coughing, and we braced ourselves for a bad night. But then you only woke up once to eat and went right back to sleep without any trouble! I was completely flummoxed about why you had suddenly reverted back to your awesome sleep pattern until it occurred to me to peek inside your mouth- and sure enough, there it was! Your first tooth had finally popped through! About a week later, you had a few nights of false starts, where you went to bed and woke up upset about an hour later, and then the second tooth on the bottom was through as well. Now you have the cutest little smile with two little teefers!
You are also ridiculously mobile, although you’re not officially crawling yet. As soon as I put you on the floor, you roll all over the place- you can get across a room so fast! You also love to army crawl after your O-Ball when someone (usually you!) tosses it across the room, and you can spin in a circle on your belly really well, too. You are getting on your hands and knees all the time, rocking back and forth, and we are just waiting with bated breath for you to start crawling. Your Daddy and I are hoping you can hold off a little longer, because we have lots to do in the next few weeks, because…
We bought a house!! We actually put in the offer and had it accepted over a month ago, but the current owners are building a new house, so we’ve had to wait a while to set the closing date while they wait for their contractor to finish work. But we now have a closing date of October 27th, and we will be taking possession no later than the 10th of November! So we’ve been busy looking for upgrades on paint and flooring, figuring out our furniture needs, and thinking about packing up our apartment. We are so excited for this next chapter for our family, but there is so much to do before then, so we are hoping you will hold off on getting mobile until we move so we only have to babyproof one time! I can guarantee that as soon as you are fully on the go, you will be into everything, so I’d like to do it once and be set.
Now that you are over your first cold, you are back into eating everything I put in front of you: strawberries, apples, zucchini, squash, blackbean mash, pineapple, watermelon… You fit right into this family, gobbling up everything we offer you! It’s so fun to watch the apprehension on your face when I give you something new- you’re unsure at first, but as soon as you get a little lick, whatever it is can’t get in your mouth fast enough! You love it all!
This past weekend, we took you to do some fall things. We went apple picking and to the pumpkin patch at Lynd’s Fruit Farm. You hung out in the carrier and watched while Mommy told Daddy which apples and pumpkins to pick. You sucked on some juice off the apple that Mommy was eating. And while you mostly had no idea what was going on, I am so happy to be making these memories with you. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, and the 1st was also the three year anniversary of your angel sibling going to be with Jesus. Not a day goes by when I don’t wonder who they would be today and what it would be like if you were a little brother. I know that if that angel baby had been born, then we wouldn’t have you, but it doesn’t change the grief I feel at that loss. So to finally get to experience these milestones with you and make memories of your “firsts” is truly a blessing from God that I am thankful for everyday.
I pray that God continues to bless us this fall and protects us in our travels in the next few weeks to Pennsylvania for your great grandmother’s memorial service and your second cousin’s wedding. I pray that He will give us peace and strength and patience as we navigate our big move. I look forward to your baptism in a few weeks and the blessing of your first milestone in our church family. And I pray that He will help me slow down and cherish each moment and memory with you, because they are flying by and you will be one before we know it!
I love you, little Rainbow Henry.
Love, Mommy
