To my Rainbow Baby, Henry,


Today, you are nine weeks old! You are still growing like a weed, little man! We had your two month check up this week, and you gained another pound and a half since the last time we were there! You officially weigh in the double digits, and jumped from the 5th percentile to the 13th! You are still a little peanut, but all we care about is that you are gaining weight, growing and thriving. I am so thankful to God that you are healthy and happy, and I pray that you continue to be.


You also had your two month shots at the doctor, and you were not impressed! Thankfully, the nurse got them down super quick, and once Mommy scooped you up, you calmed down. But you were extra fussy throughout the day, so I soaked up all the snuggles I could get to keep you peaceful. You mostly napped on me all day long, and I loved every second of it! The good news is that you will be able to venture out and about a little bit more now that you have this first round of shots done! We have some trips planned in the coming weeks for you to meet the rest of your family, and we are so excited for everyone to get to love on you as much as we have been these past two months.


Your first adventure is this weekend! Daddy is traveling to Pennsylvania for some fishing, so you and I are going to stay at Gammaw and Pup Pup’s for a few nights. I’m anxious to see how you will do sleeping in the Pack n’ Play, in an environment different from the one you’ve been in for the past 9 weeks. I’ve been working on packing us both today, and man oh man, do babies need a lot of stuff! You are such a tiny little thing, but you have more bags than me!! Gammaw and I are also planning to take you with us to run a few errands. It will be good for Mommy to get some practice so that I can get comfortable taking you with me when I need to get groceries or run to the drug store. I’m hoping your first Target run will be a success!

You hit another major developmental milestone this week- you rolled over for the first time!! You have actually rolled from your tummy to your back a few times already, but they were not intentional. Your little noggin just happened to wobble to the side, and momentum did the rest. But this week, during Tummy Time, you used your legs to push you to the side and flip onto your back. If I thought it was a fluke the first time, the follow four times confirmed that you were doing it on purpose! I caught one on video for your Daddy and grandparents, and your little face just looked pleased as punch that you had done it! I cannot believe how fast you are growing. I am sure I will blink my eyes, and you’ll be fully mobile!


It’s been a short week since you were officially two months old, but you still change a little bit every day. I ask God to help you continue to grow physically and mentally, that you would develop and reach milestones, and show us your adorable little personality. I pray that our first weekend away from the house would be fun and smooth, and that Mommy doesn’t stress out too much if things don’t go well right away. I praise God for giving me such a beautiful, smiley, happy, amazing little boy to call me Mommy, and that He will continue to help me grow into this role, using His wisdom and grace.

            We are a distracted society. I have seen this distraction play out in my own life in two ways. The first way is with my tendency to focus on all the negative things that are happening in my life, in the lives of the people I care about, and even just in the world around me. I can get hyper focused on the struggles I’m going through, believing they are the only things that are happening to me. This was particularly true in the early days of infertility. With each month that went by, I was focused too much on the failed cycle that I had endured, the fact that even more time was passing without a baby in sight. Replacing Resentment with Forgiveness

       My first brand new post when I relaunched this blog back in the fall was about replacing anger with forbearance. I was pretty vulnerable in that piece, sharing my struggle with mom rage at times because of the overwhelming pressure I feel and load that I carry as a mom after miscarriage and infertility. I’m going to be pretty vulnerable again today as we dive into this topic, because it’s something else that I really struggle with in motherhood, especially after experiencing loss and struggling to conceive.
